Component and DIMM module

DDR validation

The objective of the Intel® validation program for DDRx is to verify DDR SDRAM compliance to the Intel specifications for DDRx and performance of DDRx DIMM modules in Intel® reference systems, to provide a guideline for memory compatibility with Intel® chipsets. This validation will be performed by an approved lab on a small sample of components and modules and is intended to demonstrate supplier design and manufacturing capability. The validation process uses standardized procedures and methodologies documented in the Intel validation procedures for DDRx. For a copy of the specification, contact the approved test lab. The procedure is not intended to replace the normal product qualification process.

Validation process overview

DDRx validation process details

DDR part ready for validation

  • DDRx parts must pass supplier internal testing before being submitted for validation. For modules, the DDRx SDRAM component that is used to manufacture the module must be validated by an approved test lab and listed on the DDRx SDRAM DDR or DDR2 Web page

Set up commercial agreement with test labs directly

  • Supplier is expected to reach an agreement with test labs directly. The test labs may charge a fee. Please contact the test lab for detailed terms and conditions, and fee schedule

Submit DDRx Registered DIMM, DDRx Unbuffered DIMM, DDRx SO-DIMM, or DDRx SDRAM with its respective compliance sheet to the test lab

  • Submit DDRx parts for each part number. The compliance sheet will indicate the number of samples that are required for testing
  • DDRx Registered DIMM, DDRx Unbuffered DIMM, DDRx SO-DIMM, or DDRx SDRAM compliance sheet must be included with the validation sample shipment. These forms may also be sent by e-mail in addition to the hard copy with the shipment. Once the lab receives the compliance sheet and the samples, the lab will provide you with a submission ID. Please use this submission ID in all your future communications. The lab may also communicate to you a probable start date for the testing after receiving the samples at the lab
  • Send an e-mail copy of the compliance sheet to the Intel supplier manager that you are working with

DDRx part testing

  • Tests and test conditions are specified in Intel validation procedures. If you would like a copy of a specific DDRx validation specification, please contact the test lab

Test labs report data to Intel

  • Validation data is reported to Intel directly from the test lab. Supplier will also receive a copy of the data from the test lab. The compliance sheet accompanies the test results. These results are generally reported via e-mail
  • The typical data turn around time is 8-10 business days. Supplier is expected to work out details with test lab

Data review by Intel and web posting

  • Intel reviews the data and communicates to supplier the validation results within five business days upon receiving validation data
  • If the part passes the validation tests, Intel will post the validated part within 10 business days (in the format that appears on the compliance sheet) onto the DDRx Registered DIMM, DDRx Unbuffered DIMM, DDRx SO-DIMM, or DDRx SDRAM validation results Web page, whichever page is appropriate. The supplier, by submitting the sample through this process, has agreed to list the part on the Intel® validation Web page. Intel reserves the right to not list certain devices based on business needs

Validation failures

  • If a part fails the tests, then the supplier may fix the failure and resubmit samples to test labs for re-validation

Questions regarding the validation

  • If you have any questions, please contact the test labs
