This Technology Adoption Profile from Forrester Research surveys decision makers for a look at virtualization best practices in the enterprise. While virtualization is common, most companies have not realized more than basic consolidation benefits and need to do more to enable capabilities that support internal private clouds. However, implementing cloud-enabling virtualization capabilities is difficult, including capabilities such as chargeback to business users based on actual usage; policy-based automation of virtual machine allocation; self-service portals, consolidated management of on-premises and at-service-provider virtual and physical servers; and dynamic management to optimize power consumption.
